Additional Information

The Calculate Locations tool is updated in ArcGIS Pro 3.4 to prevent data corruption and unanticipated results. The Calculate Locations tool locates the provided points on the network and either adds or updates fields with this location information. The network location fields have specific, well-defined data types (see https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/analysis/networks/locating-analysis-inputs.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_9FF9489173C741DD95472F21B5AD8374). If the data contains a field with the same name as a network location field but a different data type, it is unclear whether the intent is to update the field values or if the matching names are coincidental. The tool is modified to prevent overwriting data when the intent is uncertain. Additionally, the Calculate Locations tool relies on standard code (used widely across ArcGIS Pro) for putting values in fields. When the data types do not match, it attempts to update the values, and if it cannot, it just skips the row and continues without raising an error. In this case, running the Calculate Locations tool for an extended period may result in unusable location fields. It is preferable to generate an error upfront to prevent wasted time.
