The Calculate Geometry tool for the area of a shapefile returns accurate results for the foot unit but not for the acre unit.

Additional Information

This will not be addressed for ArcMap. The issue in ArcGIS Pro has been fixed in the next release.

Workaround

Calculate the field using the Area geometry:!shape.area@acres!!shape.area@squarefeet!
