Switching to a version with name consisting of extra blank spaces at the end breaks the data source in the Table of Content upon reopening the map document or ArcGIS Pro project.

Additional Information

This issue is data specific and not reproducible with new versions created in ArcGIS Desktop. These problematic versions should be recreated without the extra space at the end.

Workaround

Take a full recent backup of the geodatabase and removing the empty spaces from the Administer Geodatabase's versioning tab.
