Description

If a stand-alone table was renamed (for example, in the ArcMap Table of Contents), it reverts back to its original name if its data source was changed by way of its Table Properties (i.e., right-click the table > Properties > Source > Set Data Source) or by way of the ArcPy mapping module.

Note:
The ArcPy mapping module provides the following methods to change a stand-alone tables's data source: MapDocument.findAndReplaceWorkspacePaths, MapDocument.replaceWorkspaces, TableView.findAndReplaceWorkspacePath and TableView.replaceDataSource.

Cause

This is a known issue at ArcGIS Desktop 10. For updates on the status, use bug number NIM059762. Esri is working on a permanent solution to this issue. In the meantime, use the workaround described below.

Workaround

Manually rename the stand-alone table by way of the ArcMap Table of Contents or the stand-alone table's Table Properties (i.e., right-click the table > Properties > General > Table Name property).
