Selecting an option in the Interactive Selection Method from the Selection menu in ArcMap does not update the selection for the same option in the Interactive Selection Method tool. However, selecting an option from the Interactive Selection Method tool updates the selection for the same option in the Interactive Selection Method from the Selection menu.

Workaround

When using these selections from a menu in ArcMap either use the Interactive Selection Method from the Selection Menu or the Interactive Selection Method Tool but not both in conjunction with each other.
