The tool is trying to write intermediate data to the current workspace.When run from the application (ArcCatalog or ArcMap), that workspace is not writeable.Workaround #1In the properties dialog for the Windows shortcut that Starts ArcMap and/or ArcCatalog, change the Start In property from <install_location>\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\Bin\ to somewhere that you have write permission.Workaround #2Run the tool from a Python script instead of from the application.Steps to Reproduce
