Bug

Publishing services containing multiple attribute symbology from ArcMap 10.6.1, 10.7.1, 10.8.1, or 10.8.2 to ArcGIS Server or Portal for ArcGIS fails and return the error message, "Layer's symbology is not supported." The error message is not returned when publishing to ArcGIS Online or after removing multiple attribute symbology from the layer.

Additional Information

ArcGIS Desktop (including ArcGIS Engine and ArcObjects) is in mature support and will be retired March 1, 2026. Mature support means the end of functionality-based patches and hotfixes; therefore, this issue will not be addressed. There are no plans for future releases of ArcGIS Desktop, and it is recommended that to migrate to ArcGIS Pro. Workaround

  • Publish to ArcGIS Pro when using multiple attribute symbology.
  • Publish to ArcGIS Online from ArcMap.
