Additional Information

The problem cannot be reproduced in the current production environment (February 2026 release). Since this issue was originally reported some time ago, the current behavior no longer matches the behavior described in the ticket. As a result, the original issue may no longer be present. In testing, new values appear correctly in filters, bar charts grouped by the unique value field, and the dropdown list in the Data tab. Users can also select the new value from the dropdown list in the Data tab. However, if no value is selected and the edit is cancelled (for example, by pressing the Esc key), the UI sets the field value to null, causing the new value to disappear from the row. This occurs because the new value has never been added to the template's default values. This behavior is consistent in both ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Online. It appears that the UI should not perform an applyEdits operation with a null value when no value is explicitly selected. Cancelling an edit (for example, by pressing Esc) should leave the existing value unchanged and preserve the existing field value. Because this behavior differs from the issue originally reported, it should be tracked as a separate issue in a new ticket. Therefore, this ticket will be closed.

Workaround

  1. Publish the layer with the default symbology to ArcGIS Online.
  2. Use unique symbology in Map Viewer. (In-house field name: Type).
  3. Changes to unique values in ArcGIS Pro will not be added as a domain type in ArcGIS Online after applying the unique type of symbology in Map Viewer.
  4. In the ArcGIS Online Data tab, it is possible to change the attribute values in the text form instead of a drop-down option.
