Progress Dialog box remains virtually in secondary display when external monitor is removed from laptop, causing ArcMap to lock after running geoprocessing tool or script.

This issue was addressed in 10.1 final.

Workaround

Reset location of Progress Dialog box:1) Make sure all ESRI applications are closed.2) Open Registry Editor.3) Navigate to HKEY_Current_User\Software\ESRI\Desktop10.0\ArcToolbox\ATProgressDialog.4) Right-click on 'LastPosition' > Modify > delete values > OK.4) Open ArcMap > run a geoprocessing tool > Progress Dialog should appear at default location at center of primary display.
