Workaround
There are two potential workarounds that have been identified for this issue, although it will likely not work for most users:
- There are no negative shape areas when opening the feature layer in ArcGIS Pro as a .pitemx from the item details of ArcGIS Online and then using the Export Features tool in ArcGIS Pro (instead of Export Data to a shapefile or file geodatabase from ArcGIS Online).
- However, this would not work for most users, as for example users with these datasets in their Open Data Hub sites need to have reliable downloads.
- Some users also do not have ArcGIS Pro.
- Negative shape areas can be repaired in ArcGIS Pro by using the Repair Geometry tool. However, when this tool is run on the dataset, the values are often a minimum of 30 feet off the shape areas for ArcGIS Online. This makes the repair geometry method of fixing the negative values unideal as users would have incorrect data.
