Additional Information

This is by design, not possible to show textures in the Maya 3D viewport. The main cause is not to overload Maya. Textures are only loaded in the final render step. Esri is just about to release a new tutorial for VFX / alembic workflows. There is also a section for export into Maya using VRay Proxies. https://esri.box.com/s/3mx21l6i7p0jhenj84ogzw6mwqfej3i7
