Workaround

First, determine the feature counts for the existing files within the coverage. Next, within the Metadata editor, under the Data Organization tab, scroll through the ESRI Term Descriptions to identify the files that do not match the existing feature counts and delete them. Also delete the dropped files from the SDTS area under the Data Organization tab.
