This issue is solved in 10.1. the workaround provided is recommended workflow and it works in 10.0

Workaround

1. Navigate to ArcToolbox > Data management tools > Raster > Mosaic Dataset > Define Mosaic Dataset Nodata tool. Specify' Band_1' Nodata value ' 0'. Run the tool. 2.Navigate to ArcCatalog > 2.
