Line breaks within an .xml document are not honored when updating metadata for an item in ArcGIS Online using ArcGIS API for Python.

The metadata supports HTML breaks. For example: Abstract note

By updating the logic to use this the break lines are honored.

Workaround

  1. From the item details page in ArcGIS Online for the item with the updated description, click Metadata.
  2. Navigate to the resource details, and edit 'Description(Abstract)'.
  3. Click OK in the 'Description(Abstract)' window, and save the changes to the metadata.

The items description now contains the appropriate line breaks.
