Labels in a map image service with the Maplex Label Engine do not render if the machine has a large RAM.

Duplicate of BUG-000120563: Issue is addressed in ArcGIS Pro 2.5 and ArcGIS Enterprise 10.8.

Workaround

Turn Maplex Label Engine off. This results in a loss of formatting capabilities.

 

Workflow:

  1. Use Standard Label Engine
  2. Publish Web Layer
    1. Copy all data
    2. Map Image
  3. Open map viewer in Portal
  4. Add > add layer from web > insert service url
  5. Behavior is expected (labels render)
