Additional Information

The basic problem here is field names need to be unique, and as joined field names are the tablename.fieldname, a duplicate set of field names is returned after the join. There are many places within the geoprocessing (GP), geodatabase (GDB), and mapping frameworks working off the requirement that field names must be unique. A check can be added for this case to return an error message. The documentation is updated to explain this in detail to the users.

Workaround

  • Use ArcGIS Pro 2.8.x or the prior versions.
  • Change the name of the table or feature class so it does not match.
