Join does not work with a view that has a joined casted field. The join is succesful, but the values from the joined table are NULL.

Duplicate of NIM044603 - as designed, ArcMap joins must use fields with identical types

Workaround

Create a view to join the tables in SQL Server and use the view in ArcMap.
