Workaround

For File/Personal GDB – Operation must be inside StartEditing and StopEditingFor ArcSDE GDB – Feature class must be ‘Register As Versioned’ and operation must be enclosed in StartEditing, StartEditOperation, StopEditOperation and StopEditing
