In the Services Directory for an image service, the 'View in ArcMap' link should generate its LYR file in v9.3 format not v10.0 format. Currently, if a Desktop 9.3 user attempts to add an image service being served with Server 10 into their map using this link, nothing happens.

Workaround
Problem: Cannot add an ArcGIS Server image service from a Services Directory into ArcGIS Desktop 9.3 or 9.3.1 by clicking the "View In ArcMap" link. Nothing happens when I try. Workaround: To add an image service into ArcGIS Desktop, it is best to make a connection in your catalog directly to the server on which the service resides by following these steps: Copy the first part of the URL of the Services Directory page for the inage service you want to work with, up to and including the word 'services'. Now open the Add ArcGIS Server dialog inside your Catalog and paste that string into the Server URL field. Finally delete the 'rest/' part of the string so that it has the format: <a href="http://www.example.com/arcgis/services" target="_blank">http://www.example.com/arcgis/services</a> and then press OK. You can now browse to any of the services on that server and add them into your maps.
