In the Join Data dialog box, the OK and Validate Join buttons become disabled after choosing a table from the drop-down list in Parameter #2 for which an auto-populated field displays in Parameter #3.

Workaround

For Parameter #3, click the drop-down arrow and select the same field in the drop-down list. (Selecting the field name in the box will not work--the field name must be selected in the list.)
