In the documentation for the Business Analyst widget, it states that "If a polygon feature was already selected on the map when the widget was opened, the screen to choose infographics and reports will open immediately." However, polygons selected using the Select widget are not honored by the Business Analyst widget.

Workaround

Rather than using the Select widget, click the polygon and then run the Business Analyst widget. However, this can be troublesome as there is no option to select multiply polygons by simply clicking on it.
