In Oracle, using the Geodatabase Properties dialog box to change an existing Database Connection file to connect to a user-schema geodatabase fails with a TNS error if the TNS name is specified with the password in the Database Connection file.

Workaround

Re-create the connection using the Create ArcSDE Connection File geoprocessing tool and specify the user-schema geodatabase in that tool.
