Additional Information

Information about attribute fields can be added via ArcGIS Pro. This is achieved by deliberately choosing to synchronize the item’s metadata. This must be done by clicking the appropriate button on the ribbon in the Catalog view before starting to edit the item’s metadata. This behavior is by design, for performance reasons. Refer to the Esri documentation on 'Update item properties in metadata' link below for more information: https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/metadata/update-item-properties-in-metadata.htm

Workaround

  1. In ArcCatalog, click the layer in the Catalog Tree > Description.
  2. Wait for the description to load and close ArcCatalog.
  3. In ArcGIS Pro, close the layer's metadata window and re-open it by navigating to Catalog > Edit Metadata > Fields and right-clicking the layer.
  4. The layer's fields are now listed.
