In ArcGIS Pro, applying SQL query on the shape field in a label class fails with "The SQL expression has invalid syntax" for spatial tables not registered with the geodatabase.

Workaround

If possible, register the spatial table with the geodatabase. The issue is also not reproducible in ArcMap.
