In ArcGIS Online, three publishing methods allow unsupported characters in the field names of hosted feature layers: Publishing from ArcMap, publishing from ArcGIS Pro, and adding an item to content as a file geodatabase.

Additional Information

ArcGIS Online keep the same behavior as ArcGIS Map and Pro. Field name will not contain those special characters, but alias can still keep those.

Workaround

Remove unsupported characters from field names before publishing.
