In ArcGIS 10.1 for Desktop, the Check Geometry tool fails with "ERROR 999999: The coordinates or measures are out of bounds."

Workaround

1. Export the full original dataset to a shapefile, if it's not already. 2. Go into the Properties of that shapefile within ArcCatalog.3. Go to the Indexes tab.4. Click Delete and then click Add in the Spatial Index section. 5. Then run the shapefile through the Check Geometry tool again and it should complete successfully.
