Importing an MXD file into ArcGIS Pro containing a joined Microsoft Excel sheet does not preserve the join when the absolute path is chosen.

Additional Information

This is fixed in ArcGIS Pro 2.4 when the Microsoft Excel support is enhanced by the geodatabase team. For more information, refer to ArcGIS Pro: Work with Microsoft Excel files in ArcGIS Pro https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/help/data/excel/work-with-excel-in-arcgis-pro.htm.

Workaround

Check the Store relative pathnames to data sources option in the File tab of the map document properties in ArcMap. Joins appear in ArcGIS Pro after importing the map document.
