Image services published from signed 8-bit integer raster datasets with any form of compression applied turn black upon changing the symbology to 'Unique Values' or 'Classify' in ArcGIS Online Map Viewer.

This issue is not in the current roadmap.

Workaround

If using a signed 8-bit integer raster dataset, do not apply any form compression. If compression is applied to a signed integer dataset, it must haveĀ one bit depth higher than 8 to display correctly. Unsigned integer raster datasets displays regardless of bit depth and compression.
