Following the June 2025 release of ArcGIS Online, accessing the Fields view under the Data tab fails with the message, "An error has occurred. Please try again later" if a field description contains a backslash.

Workaround
Update the layer definition using the ArcGIS Admin API to update the descriptions for fields to remove the backslash.
