Workaround

1) In an edit session, delete the annotation feature to be edited.2) Edit the text string on which the annotation is based in the feature class' attribute table.3) Right-click on the feature and choose Selection > Annotate Selected Features. An updated annotation feature will be written out to the annotation feature class following the label placement properties.
