Exporting a map layout to PDF in ArcGIS 10.1 SP1 creates font issues which do not occur when the same process is used in ArcGIS 10.1 SP0.

Workaround

Remove the tabbed space after the number '1.' and the number '2.' in the blue paragraph on the upper right of the layout.
