For Feature Class:copy/paste and export to xml workspace preserves metadata information.For Raster:Export out the metadata separately using the Export Metadata tool in ArcCatalog, copy the raster over to the other ArcSDE instance as usual, then import the metadata for the raster using the Import Metadata tool in ArcCatalo09/21/07 JL Fixed in 9.3
