Additional Information
This is expected behavior. ArcGIS StoryMaps has a requirement from many customers who want to show different titles for a story and its ArcGIS item details. Additionally, ArcGIS StoryMaps have a requirement to optimize their appearance when shared on the web, such as on social media sites, and the metadata must be managed and presented in specific ways for this to be effective. For these reasons, a story's title is not automatically updated when the item title is edited on its ArcGIS item details page.
Changes to a story's title can be applied from the story builder to the ArcGIS item details, but they are not transferred in the opposite direction. Refer to the provided workaround for more information.
Workaround
To update both the story title and its item title, make the changes in the story builder and republish the story. Enable the 'Update ArcGIS item details when publishing' to update the item details with the new title. For more information, refer to: https://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-storymaps/author-and-share/publish-a-story.htm.
