Additional Information
Opening a map package and modifying its contents is not a supported workflow. When a map package is opened, the contents are copied to the local drive, and any edits are applied only to that local copy. The original contents of the map package are not updated.
Although the data may appear to be updated, this is because the contents of the map package are not re-copied locally on subsequent openings. If the map package is moved to a different machine or accessed under a different login, no changes will be visible.
To update the data in a map package, the data should be extracted, modified, and then repackaged into a new map package.
If support for modifying data within a map package and having those changes persist is desired, an enhancement request should be submitted for consideration.
Workaround
Use the Export Feature tool or context menu to export features and remove editor tracking fields from the list of fields.
The workaround is not feasible for the frequent receipt of map packages containing large amounts of data. The test map package contains 29 file geodatabases with varying numbers of feature classes, ranging from 1 to 12.
