Documentation should be added stating ArcGIS Desktop Index/Search Options do not work with SDE geodatabases using database authentication when 'Save username and password' is not selected.

Workaround

1. Embed the username/password in the connection file.2. If username/password cannot be embedded, create a user with read permissions only.3. Create a spatial database connection using this user’s credentials to save the username/password.4. Distribute this connection to all users to add the connection to their Index/Search Options dialog box.
