Creating hosted Web Feature Service (WFS) layers from hosted feature layers in ArcGIS Online creates layers that cannot be added to ArcGIS Online Map Viewer and publishing large hosted WFS layers from ArcGIS Pro causes the service to return an error, "HTTP Status 401 - unauthorized" in ArcGIS Online.

This issue is no longer reproducible in the current version of ArcGIS Online. If the issue reoccurs, contact Esri Support Services.

Workaround

  • Publish from ArcGIS Pro as one part if the service is not large.
  • Publish from ArcGIS Pro as two parts if the service is large.
