Copying and pasting a feature class with a temporary join and updating the data source for the pasted feature class, changes the join in the original feature class to reference the feature class with the updated data source.

Workaround

  • After following this workflow, remove the join from the original layer and re-do the join.
  • Add the new layer and do the join rather than copying and pasting the old layer and updating the data source.
