Workaround

1. Create a new polygon feature class and use this as your "temporary polygon feature class". Make sure this feature class is located in a different location so it cannot be edited in the same editing session as your final data. (i.e. different geodatabase, or folder)2. Place the permanent polygon feature class, the temporary polygon feature class and the feature class you'll be constructing from, into ArcMap.3. Use the Construct Features Tool as you normally would with the temporary polygon feature class as your target. 4. Then save edits and stop editing the temporary data.5. Start editing again and select the permanent polygon feature class as your target.6. Copy and paste the resulting features from the temporary polygon feature class into the permanent polygon feature class.7. Save your edits and stop editing.Repeat as necessary. It may be best to delete the existing features from the temporary polygon feature class before constructing new features into the temporary polygon feature class again. This should ensure no extra features are accidentally brought into your permanent data. It is also recommended to use a geodatabase topology to make sure that no gaps or sliver polygons are accidentally created during this process.
