Centralized label expression becomes not centralized (left-aligned) after switching from Standard to Maplex Engine labeling.

Additional Information

The Maplex label engine stacking parameter sets the alignment differently than how the standard label engine does. To achieve the centered alignment follow the steps below: On the label manager select the label class to work with click the properties button click the fitting strategy tab and click the Stack label options button set the label alignment to constrain to center

Workaround

Option 1: Close the mxd, open a new blank map, re-add the layer to ArcMap's Table of Contents. Re-apply any symbology and label expressions.Option 2: Revert to Standard labeling, choose North or South label placement.
  1. Open Layer Properties and click Labels.
  2. Go to the Label Position tab and click the Position button.
  3. Select North or South.
  4. Click OK > OK > Apply and OK.
