Cannot delete fields from shapefiles in ArcMap 10 on Windows 7 or Windows 2008 via the table view; works fine on Windows XP, Windows 2003, and Windows Vista.

Workaround

- Use the Geoprocessing Delete Field tool.- Import shapefile into file or personal geodatabase, delete the desired field and then export back to a new shapefile or use the Delete Field tool.- Unchek the field in the layer properties, and then export the data.
