Cannot create a map using services from the same authenticated ArcGIS Server in which some layers have their user name and password stored in them and others do not.

Workaround
To make a map in which the user gets prompted to login to access authenticated services, use the same ArcCatalog connection in which the user name/password has not been saved to add all the desired layers into the map, even ones that are freely available. No real need to have some layers from this server with the user name password stored if there is at least one layer in the same map from this server in which the user name password is not stored. But it is something that map makers will come across if they try and do what I do
