Bentley's WaterGEMS program causes ArcMap to stops responding. Event Viewer shows the error occurs in the mfc71u.dll.

Description
When opening ArcMap, the following error message is displayed:"ArcMap has encountered a problem and needs to close."
Event Viewer shows that the error occurred in the file named mfc71u.dll.
Cause
This issue is caused by a conflict between ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 and Bentley's WaterGEMS application.Workaround
There are three workarounds for this issue:1) Uninstall WaterGEMS.
2) Revert ArcGIS Desktop back to version 9.1.
3) Contact Bentley support for assistance. There may be a WaterGEMS update available that will resolve this issue. A link to their support page is included below in Related Information.
