Basemaps using a spatial reference different from the current basemap in Map Viewer are not available in the basemap gallery.

Additional Information

Switching spatial reference is a known limitation in Map Viewer. This function is planned to be supported in the upcoming release of Map Viewer in ArcGIS Online.

Workaround

The following workaround works if the desired basemap is from Living Atlas:

  1. Select the Layers tab.
  2. Add layer.
  3. In Living Atlas, find the basemap to use.
