The format-date function works best with a date, time or dateTime input. If users need a custom formatted date or time value stored as a string, the best approach is to use a hidden (or dateTime) field with the now() function in the calculation column, followed by a text question with the format-date function. Here is an example of how this would look in the XLSForm using the example provided. The example also includes the 'once' function: type name label calculation hidden dateTime DateTime once(now()) text fromDateTime Text from dateTime format-date(${dateTime}, '%y%m%d%H%M')
