Additional Information

This problem is not reproducible with ArcGIS Pro 2.8.6 or more recent versions of ArcGIS Pro. In the steps provided, there is no step for restarting the computer. Sometimes the changes take place immediately, and sometimes a restart is required for the changes to take effect. However, in every case recorded, both ArcGIS Pro and File Explorer behaved in the same way. When the hidden drive is included in the list of drives in File Explorer, it is included in the list in ArcGIS Pro, and vice-versa. If a restart is required, after the restart, the hidden drive is hidden both in File Explorer and in ArcGIS Pro. Referring to the drive being hidden in ArcGIS Pro, it refers to the Add Folder Connection dialog box or any other instance of the ArcGIS Pro browse dialog box. If the hidden drive is not visible in the list of drives in File Explorer, it is also not listed when clicking 'This PC' under Computer on the left side of the dialog box. This means it is not possible to click the hidden drive and directly add it to the project as a folder connection. However, as stated in the referenced article, the specified setting only hides the icon for the drive in the computer's list of drives. This does not prevent access to the hidden drive in other ways. For example, if the path to a folder on a hidden drive is known, type the path to it and access the contents of the folder on the hidden drive both in File Explorer and in the ArcGIS Pro browse dialog box. Also, if a folder connection is added to a folder on the drive before it is hidden, the folder connection continues to provide access to the folder's contents after the drive is hidden and the computer is restarted. Layers in a map referencing data in a folder on a hidden drive also continues to draw. Also, ArcMap 10.8 works exactly the same way as ArcGIS Pro and File Explorer. Although the hidden drive is not available in the list of drives by default, if the path to a folder on the hidden drive is known, type it in and access data in that folder in both ArcCatalog and the Add Data dialog box. Save an MXD file to the hidden drive and open the MXD file from that location. ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, and File Explorer behave in the same way.
