ArcGIS Pro produces invisible (therefore difficult to find and fix) characters when the Calculate Field tool runs a feature class with a Python expression that includes "<text>\<numbers>\" in a string.

This is following the standard Python behavior. Altering the behavior could have unintended consequences for other users.

Workaround

  • Recalculate the field with an r in front of the string: r"<text>\<numbers>\"
  • Recalculate the field and change the backslash to two backslashes: "<text>\\<numbers>\"
