ArcGIS Pro allows a subtype to be added to a field with a domain already applied. The domain then cannot be removed.

Additional Information

Subtypes do not take into consideration domains on the subtype field. Domains are considered in other fields when subtypes are enabled. You can use the Remove Domain From Field tool to remove the domain from the field or disable subtypes, remove the domain, and reconfigure subtypes.

Workaround

  1. Remove the subtype via the Subtypes view.
  2. Remove the domain via the Fields view.
  3. Rebuild the subtype via the Subtypes view.
  4. Reapply any domains applied to the subtype values via the Subtypes view.
