Additional Information
Adding a layer ID to the end of a map service URL changes the layer type from a map image layer to a feature layer. The item does not update to reflect the new type. The item may also contain stale information. If it has map image layer information, it references multiple sublayers in the item instead of a single feature layer, and there are capabilities that are supported in a map image layer but not in a feature layer, and vice versa.
Workaround
Add a new item directly in the ArcGIS Online Content using the URL #######/MapServer/0. The layer displays correctly in Map Viewer but is recognized as a feature layer.
