All features are selected when applying a page definition on a layer involved in a table join, when a graphic table element is created for the layer, and when a filter to reflect the definition query is applied.

Workaround

Create a permanent join of the data by exporting the temporarily joined layer. Use the layer with the permanent join as the data source.
