After one successful launch of ArcMap additional attempts return error "ArcGIS Desktop has encountered a serious application error...". After uninstalling the Data Interoperability extension, ArcMap opens.

Upgrade your graphics card driver. ArcGIS requires an OpenGL2.0 or higher graphics card. See the System Requirements page.

Workaround

Upgrade the graphics card driver. Verify that the video card meets the OpenGL 2.0 (minimum) requirement, if it does not replace video card or install on a machine that meets the requirement.ArcGIS requires an OpenGL2.0 or higher graphics card.
